Concopian Co-Working

Concopia is created by Nadja Pass and Jan Rasmussen – two friends who have been working together closely for more than 25 years, bringing out the best in each other.

She is the founder of several initiatives such as Civic Desire, Conversation Salons and The Academy of Now.

She has published several books, magazines and decks of conversation cards. She has also worked with a wide array of museums to help rethink the way they engage their visitors, various state departments in rethinking politics and the Danish Government in reevoking rhetorical citizenship.

Nadja holds a degree in rhetorics and cultural studies. She has studied in Ghana, lived in New York, Nuuk and Havana for months, travelled extensively Vietnam, India and the Middle East and when she was a young adult she got to know Moscow and Beijing inside-out as she constantly visited her parents who worked at the Danish Embassies.

In 2022 Nadja was appointed to the Danish Design Council for her work within civic design.

  • Jan Rasmussen

Jan is an artistic director and visual connaisseur.

In 2008 he founded Tombola Cph - a design studio with a fondness of the bumpy road and an urge to do fewer things slower.

Jan has designed the visual universes for many of Denmarks most famous Michelin Restaurants sprawling from his early work for the world renowned restaurant NOMA and the yearly international summit for international top chefs - MAD Foodcamp.

Along with this gastronomic claim to fame Jan works with an array of organisations, municipalities and corporations.

Jan always gets the most excited when presented with moonshot ideas and prefers partnerships with people who can’t stop doing what they do.

“Nadja Pass has hosted some of UNICEF Denmark's innovation labs, co-creation sessions and one of our staff days. Her unique and engaging style as a host inspires participants to share, create and dream together in a non-judgmental, focused and fun way.

On occasions when we would have liked to schedule her, but couldn’t, we turn to her conversation cards and seamlessly incorporate them into our teambuilding and innovation processes. They are easy to use and always add an elevated touch of inspiration and magic to the conversations.”

— Susanne Dahl, Executive Director, UNICEF Denmark

Concopia builds on everything we’ve learned while…

  • Hosting Conversation Salons

In 2010 Nadja introduced the concept of Conversation Salons, together with the anthropologist Andreas Lloyd.

The idea was to create new spaces for people to meet across age gaps, interests, political opinions and fields to explore each others perspectives.

Nadja and Andreas developed several tools that help salon guests skip the small talk and jump directly to the questions and topics that really matter. They also wrote a handbook about this to inspire more people to host their own salons.

Once introduced in 2010 the Conversation Salons quickly gained momentum and are now a household name within dinner and conference planning user and citizen engagement and informal get-togethers.

At this point Nadja has hosted hundreds of Conversation Salons all over Denmark and abroad. Always thrilled to witness how little it takes to make opposites listen openly to one another and to crack open amazing conversations open.

Concopia Cards is a tool that makes it easy for everyone to host their own Conversation Salons.

  • Spearheading innovation labs

At the age of 15 Nadja won an essay contest on how to rethink the future, and ever since then, she has taken active part in designing the Danish society.

In 2010 she and Andreas Lloyd founded the laboratory ‘Civic Desire’ – Borgerlyst in Danish - to experiment with tools and methodologies that can help citizens explore and manifest their ideas.

Several ministeries, organizations and museums picked up on this and ever since Nadja has been spearheading innovation labs on everything from re-cycling, elder care, museum interpretation and culinary culture. Always bringing together top decision makers within a field and various experts, artists and philosophers to enhance cross-pollination.

In this way Nadja has obtained knowledge and network within many different fields and has also been part of a taskforce helping the government rethink rhetorical citizenship.

Concopia Cards are an innovation tool that helps players get a deep understanding of each other’s perspectives – and cultivates a culture of cross-pollination across teams, organizations, sectors and fields.

  • Creating celebratory functions and soirees

Nadja often fills the role as the master of ceremonies. In 2023 she was part of the delegation from AFSMK – American Friends of the National Gallery of Denmark – that hosted the opening dinners for the exhibition “Beyond the Light” that was shown at The Met in New York and The Getty in Los Angeles.

As much as she loves formals, Nadja also enjoys creating new ways of celebrating together. She has a lot of fun meticulously planning ‘treasure hunts for adults’ where the celebrations are moved into nature and groups of guest are sent off on exciting expeditions, or symposiums where inspirational talks, music, arts and gastronomy go hand in hand.

Concopia Cards are a great tool for hosts who wish to make their dinners, functions and parties truly memorable. As much as fancy food, wine, decors and venues are a treat - it really doesn’t have to cost a lot to host lavish parties as long as the conversations among the guests are vibrant.

  • Experimenting with media formats

Together Jan Rasmussen and Nadja Pass have created countless magazines, books and decks of conversation cards.

We often do this on our own whenever we sense that the world needs more poetry, reflection, civic desire or moonshots.

We also work closely with a few selected organizations, museums or foundations when they want to truly make great changes with in their fields.

We recently created a deck of conversation cards for the DaneAge Association to help stimulate the conversations between elderly people and their caretakers and loved ones. These decks are now widely used in nursery homes and elder care all over Denmark and has helped many families talk about important stuff and savor shared memories.

Concopia Cards are our latest addition, to this collection, where we are trying to mix everything we have learned along the way and hope to pass on.
